Saju Dev
Renowned dancer and choreographer Saju Dev of Sreemangal has been honored with the Kazi Nazrul Islam Memorial Award 2026 in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of dance.
The award was presented to him at a ceremony held on Saturday, June 13, at the Central Kochi-Kancha Auditorium in Segunbagicha, Dhaka.
The event was jointly organized by Bangladesh Jhankar Shilpigosthi and Alokito Manusher Jonno Foundation to commemorate the 127th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. The program featured a discussion session, reception for distinguished personalities, and cultural performances. Eminent individuals from various fields were honored during the event. As part of this recognition, Saju Dev received the Kazi Nazrul Islam Memorial Award 2026 for his special contributions to dance.
Saju Dev is a well-known cultural figure and accomplished dance artist from Sreemangal. He serves as the Director of Sreemangal Nrityangan and is also a dance instructor at the Dance Department of the Habiganj District Shilpakala Academy.
For many years, he has played a significant role in promoting arts and culture through dance practice, training, and various cultural activities. He has also been actively involved in directing cultural festivals, dance performances, and dance dramas at both local and national levels.
Expressing his gratitude, Saju Dev said, “To be honest, when I first received a letter from Jhankar Shilpigosthi informing me that I had been nominated for this award, it felt unbelievable. As a dancer and choreographer, this recognition is a matter of great pride for me. What made it even more special was receiving the award from Ekushey Padak-winning artist Fatema Tuz Zohra. Being recognized by distinguished personalities whom I had previously only seen on television was truly a memorable experience.”
He further added, “I do not know whether I am fully deserving of this honor, but I am sincerely grateful for the love, support, and blessings I have received. I would also like to thank the jury board of Jhankar Shilpigosthi for their thoughtful evaluation and recognition. Finally, I dedicate this achievement to all members of the Nrityangan family, my colleagues, and my well-wishers.”
