Maldives welcomes one millionth tourist of 2023
The Maldives has welcomed the one millionth tourist to visit the country this year.
The one millionth tourist to arrive in the Maldives this year was Anton Pavlov from Russia. He and his family was welcomed at Velana International Airport (VIA) by officials from the Ministry of Tourism, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and Maldives Immigration.
Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Thoyyib Mohamed described the occasion as a remarkable achievement for the tourism sector in the Maldives this year. He said the number of tourist arrivals are expected to increase in the future and the target to welcome 1.8 million tourists this year and break last year’s record of 1.6 million tourists will be achieved. He also said MMPRC will make efforts to promote the Maldives around the world.
Speaking to reporters on his arrival, Anton said he was delighted to receive such a welcome from the Maldives. He also said that it was his first time visiting the country and assured that it will not be his last.
Russia is currently the second top source market for tourist arrivals in the Maldives. More than 114,000 tourists have arrived from Russia so far this year.
