Sylhet City Polls: Voting is over, waiting for the results

Voting ended in Sylhet. Voting was done by EVM system in all the wards of the city from 8 am to 4 pm. Badruddin Ahmad Kamran was crowned mayor in the first election of Sylhet City Corporation. Ariful Haque Chowdhury was the councilor in that council. After that, Kamran held the seat for 10 consecutive years. In the third election of the city corporation, there was a fall in rhythm. Heavyweight Kamran had to be defeated by Arif. After that, Kamran was caught by Arif twice in a row.

The party's poor organizational condition was blamed for that defeat. It was also discussed that the 'betrayal' of some Awami League leaders had drowned Kamran in the election. So this time more importance is given to party unity from the center. The central leaders came to Sylhet and gave a stern warning to the party leaders and workers. He said, "They want to restore the mayor's seat with Anwaruzzaman, not the hattrick of defeat."

The proof of how successful the local leaders have been in the ordeal of regaining the mayor's seat will have to wait until the election results are announced today. And the people of Sylhet have to wait till the result for what surprise the Jatiya Party candidate can show in the anti-boat vote. If Langal wins the election, it will be a new history. Earlier, the Jatiya Party candidate lost his security even though he had fielded candidates twice in the Sylhet city elections.

8 candidates are competing for the post of mayor in the Sylhet City Corporation elections. Awami League's Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury and Jatiya Party's Nazrul Islam Babul are in the main contest. Since the Jatiya Party's organizational condition in Sylhet was not strong, Babul faced a personnel crisis from the beginning. The 'anti-boat' vote became his hope in the elections. He is hoping that if the councilors can pull the voters to the centre, the anti-boat vote will be ploughed. He also expects that the vote of the opposition circle will be more than the voter of the boat. But at the end of the day, Babul's forehead fell due to bad weather.

Nazrul Islam Babul said in response to the question that how many voters will be brought to the center, the councilor candidates will bring their voters to the center. If it rains, voter turnout will be a bit low, but councilors will do their best. The mayor's vote will also be cast along with the councillor's vote.

In response to the question of how optimistic he is about his victory, Babul said that people do not like this government anymore. They want to send a strong message to the government by voting against the boat. That is why the tide has risen in favor of the plough. Seeing that tide, administration and government party candidates are resorting to various tricks. Agam is also plotting to snatch the victory.

However, Awami League is not willing to take it into account, no matter how much Babul talks about the electoral victory by voting against the boat. Defeat of party candidate twice in a row. Although the party is in power, there is no party representative in the mayor's chair. The party wants to get rid of this sorrow. This time, special initiatives have been taken from the center to prevent a repeat of the defeat. Leaders from the center have come and held meetings in Sylhet. He sat with the leaders and activists of Awami League and affiliated organizations. He has made it clear that unity in the election must be iron-clad. Under the pressure of the central leaders, forgetting all the differences, this time party candidate Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury entered the field drinking half water. The leaders and activists are desperate to gift the Sylhet City Corporation mayor's chair to the party through the victory of the boat. A separate committee has been set up in each center to ensure that even if it rains on the election day, no boat voter is left out of voting.

Final report on BNP-Jamaat:

BNP Jamaat has boycotted the city elections. BNP expelled the candidates who participated in the election for life. The party has prohibited the activists from going to the center on the polling day. But although the Jamaat did not field a candidate for the post of mayor, the party's leaders and activists have been candidates for councilors in various wards. As a result, it is almost certain that Jamaat leaders and activists will go to vote on election day. Besides, a large number of workers-supporters will go to vote for the leaders who have been expelled from the party as councillors. By participating in the election campaign, they confirmed going to the polling station. As a result, when BNP and Jamaat activists and supporters go to vote, the final calculation is going on as to who will vote for the post of mayor.
