Biography and Experience
Hasanat Kamal is a UK-based journalist originally from Bangladesh, with more than two decades of reporting experience. His work focuses on environmental issues, biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and the rights of marginalized communities.
He began his career as a local reporter in Bangladesh and now serves as the editor of eyenews.news, where he oversees environmental, investigative, and regional reporting.
His reporting often centres on underreported ecosystems, including forests, wetlands, tea estates, and indigenous territories, particularly in northeastern Bangladesh. His work has covered deforestation, forest governance, wildlife protection, wetland degradation, and the impact of climate change on livelihoods. He combines field reporting with data analysis, policy review, and community perspectives.
Over the years, he has received several fellowships and reporting grants, including support from the Earth Journalism Network (EJN). He has also completed an extended reporting series on haor conservation. His work has appeared in national media outlets such as The Daily New Age, The Daily Samakal, and Bangladesh Television (BTV), as well as on international platforms.
He is trained in solutions-focused journalism and multimedia storytelling, with practical experience in photography, basic videography, and investigative reporting in remote and environmentally sensitive regions.
