Rabindra-Nazrul Birth Anniversary Celebration in Sreemangal

A discussion meeting and colorful cultural program were organized in Sreemangal, Moulvibazar, to celebrate the birth anniversaries of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam. The event came alive with captivating performances of recitation, music, poetry reading, and dance.

The program was held on Thursday evening at the Victoria High School Auditorium on Moulvibazar Road in Sreemangal, organized by the Sreemangal branch of the Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Sammilan Parishad. The event formally began with the lighting of ceremonial lamps by the guests, followed by performances of Rabindra Sangeet and Nazrul Sangeet.

Later in the evening, artists from the recitation organization Shobdoshaili Sreemangal created a unique atmosphere through recitations of poems by national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. At the same time, young performers from Nobin Khelaghar presented readings of poems and rhymes by Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam. Dance performances by artists of Nrityangan Sreemangal added further vibrancy to the celebration.

The program was presided over by Kalyan Kanti Dutta, former professor of Sreemangal Government College. It was hosted by Joly Paul, Assistant Professor at Dwarikapaul Mahila Degree College and a recitation artist. Distinguished writer, poet, and educator Dwipendra Bhattacharjee attended as the keynote speaker. Among others, speeches were delivered by Jhalak Kanti Chakraborty, Principal of Bhunabir Dashrath High School and College; Ayon Chowdhury, Headmaster of Victoria High School; and Ajay Kumar Dev, Vice President of the Moulvibazar District Committee of Puja Udjapan Parishad.

Also present were Tamal Chakraborty, Convener of the Sreemangal branch of the National Rabindra Sangeet Sammilon Parishad, and Bikash Das Bappan, Director and Trainer of Shobdoshaili Sreemangal, along with other prominent members of the local cultural community.

The speakers expressed hope that such initiatives would play a significant role in promoting Bengali culture among younger generations while paying tribute to the literary, musical, and humanistic legacy of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam.
