Poetry Event for Poet Pias Majid Held by Kebita Porishod UK

On Monday, 20 July 2026, a vibrant literary gathering, poetry recital, and discussion on the distinguished poet Pias Majid was hosted by Kebita Porishod UK at the Darpan Media Centre. 

Moderated by literary and cultural activist Hena Begum, the event was well-attended by poets, writers, journalists, and literature enthusiasts.

The guest list included poet Pias Majid, former Chair of the English Departments at Jahangirnagar University and Dhaka University Shafi Ahmed, and British poet Stephen Watts.

Prominent figures discussed Pias Majid's literary works, poetic philosophy, diction, and his contribution to contemporary Bengali poetry. 

The discussants included poet Shamim Azad, Hamid Mohammad, Ashraf Neswar, Ataur Rahman Milad, Faruk Ahmed, Milton Rahman, Dilu Naser, Masuk Ibn Anis, Shagufta Sharmeen, and Mohammad Iqbal.

Alongside the discussion, a key highlight of the event was the poetry recital, featuring UK-based poets reading their own work. In addition, selected poems by Pias Majid were recited by Smriti Azad, Shatarupa Chowdhury Onya, Hafsa Noor, and Shah Shariff Uddin.

The active participation of attending poets, writers, journalists, literature lovers, and professionals from various fields made the entire event lively and meaningful.

In the closing segment, the President of Kebita Porishod UK, poet Iqbal Hossain Bulbul, expressed his sincere thanks to everyone present. He stated that such events would continue in the future to promote Bengali literature and culture.
