The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council has strongly condemned the arrest of Haridas Chandra Tarani Das, who gained national attention for initiating the construction of an 81-foot-tall statue of Lord Ram at the Shri Shri Radhagobinda Kali Temple premises in Palashbari, Gaibandha. The organization has also demanded his immediate release.

The demand was made in a press statement issued on Monday (July 13), signed by Mahindra Kumar Nath, Joint General Secretary of the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council.

According to the statement, an extremist communal group has long opposed the initiative to build the 81-foot statue of Lord Ram at the Shri Shri Radhagobinda Kali Temple in Palashbari. The council alleged that the group's activities have hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindu community and have spread religious hatred across the country, undermining communal harmony.

The Unity Council further claimed that, instead of taking legal action against those allegedly inciting communal hatred and social unrest, the authorities arrested Haridas Chandra Tarani Das, whom the organization described as a victim of communal threats. It said the arrest is deeply unfortunate, unacceptable, and contrary to the principles of democracy and the rule of law.

The organization called on the relevant authorities to ensure the immediate and unconditional release of Haridas Chandra Tarani Das.

According to available information, Haridas Chandra Tarani Das was arrested on Sunday night (July 12) in connection with an alleged money laundering case.
