PM Tarique Rahman Joins Sylhet Civic Gathering

PM Tarique Rahman Attends Civic Gathering in Sylhet City Corporation.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has attended a civic gathering organized by the Sylhet City Corporation at the city hall.

He joined the event at around 11:15 am on Saturday. The welcome address was delivered by the Chief Executive Officer of the City Corporation, Rezai Rafin Sarkar. Earlier, at 11:00 am, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for projects aimed at resolving waterlogging and flood issues in Sylhet, as well as for city beautification, in the Chandnighat area. He arrived in Sylhet at 10:00 am amid heavy rain.

He then visited the shrine of the revered Sufi saint Hazrat Shahjalal (RA).

At 12:00 pm, the Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurate a canal excavation program in Kandigaon Union of Sylhet Sadar Upazila. Later, at 3:00 pm, he will launch the “Notun Kuri Sports” program at Sylhet District Stadium, an initiative by the Ministry of Youth and Sports aimed at discovering young athletic talent. At 5:00 pm, he will attend a party meeting at the District Shilpakala Academy before returning to Dhaka.

Security measures have been strengthened around the Prime Minister’s visit. In addition to law enforcement agencies, intelligence units are actively working on the ground. Checkposts, surveillance, and protocol-based security arrangements have been implemented at key points.
This marks his first visit to Sylhet since assuming office as Prime Minister.

Ahead of his visit, major roads, key intersections, and installations across Sylhet city have been renovated and decorated. Roads have been repaired, dividers landscaped with plants, and structures freshly painted to give the city a clean and vibrant look. Unnecessary banners and festoons have also been removed by the Sylhet City Corporation.
