Storm Uproots Trees and Blocks Lawachara National Forest Road

Road communication has been completely suspended on the Kamalganj-Srimangal road in the 'Garibhanga' area of Lawachara National Park after several trees were uprooted during a Kalbaishakhi (Nor'wester) storm. This has left hundreds of vehicles stranded on both sides of the road, causing severe distress to passengers.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when a sudden, powerful storm caused massive trees to fall across the road, making this vital regional highway entirely impassable.

According to local sources, the intensity of the storm caused multiple trees to break and fall within moments, halting all traffic and creating long tailbacks on either side.

Upon receiving the news, members of the Police, Forest Department, and Fire Service quickly arrived at the scene to begin clearing the debris. However, the rescue operation is reportedly moving slowly due to the location being deep within the forest and the massive size of the fallen trees.

Kazi Nazmul Haque, a Forest Officer from the Srimangal Range, confirmed the road closure, stating that the sudden rain and storm caused large trees to fall at various points. He noted that hundreds of vehicles remain stuck, but clearing efforts are underway, and traffic will return to normal once the work is completed.

Kamalganj Upazimal Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Asaduzzaman said that relevant authorities are working to remove the trees as quickly as possible to restore normal communication.
